Paddy Macleod – 1932-2023
We were sad to learn of Paddy’s passing. Paddy was General Manager of VCS in some capacity for more than 25 years.
Paddy was a tireless force in the cultural life of Vancouver, a champion for the role of the arts in the community and a skilled and resourceful administrator who successfully guided several organizations in her long career. She loved working with creative-minded people and brought a generous spirit combined with a practical and tough-minded approach to the challenges of managing and sustaining arts organizations. Through her volunteer work and commitment to mentorship, she helped shape the province’s arts scene.
Paddy Macleod was President of several of the city’s prominent cultural organizations including The Greater Vancouver Alliance for Arts and Culture. She served as a board director of Festival Vancouver, as chair of the Festival’s Programme Advisory Committee and was an active participant on the boards of The Vancouver Concert Hall and Theatre Society.
Wide-ranging managerial experience with Cantata Singers included the production and financing of a number of CD’s one of which, A Venetian Vespers of 1640, was nominated for a Juno award. Paddy was Executive Producer of a documentary video of the choir’s tour to Europe in 1998, Children of Bach, which was widely telecast in Canada. She also assisted the choir and its directors in winning the Canada Council’s Healey Willan Prize – three times.
Born in South Africa, Paddy’s early experience was in the fields of journalism and broadcasting and prior to entering into Arts Administration in Canada. She received an MA from Simon Fraser University.
